Clayton case sent to District Court

The case of a Fort Dodge man who was allegedly had guns and drugs in his car when he got pulled over has been sent to District Court to be scheduled.

Marquez J. Clayton, 20, of Fort Dodge, is facing multiple charges for the incident, which happened Sunday.

Clayton was pulled over at 8:21 a.m. Sunday because he was operating on a suspended license, according to Fort Dodge Police Chief Tim Carmody.

Carmody said that as Sgt. Dan Charlson was questioning Clayton, Clayton became combative and had to be taken into custody. According to Carmody, drugs and drug paraphernalia were found with Clayton.

When officers searched Clayton’s car, they allegedly found a loaded 9-mm handgun under the driver’s seat.

Clayton was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying weapons, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts and driving while license is suspended.

Clayton, who was able to post bond, made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Monday morning. Magistrate William Habhab sent the case to Webster County District Court, where it will be scheduled at a later date.

The three simple misdemeanor cases were continued for 180 days.

Four plead guilty to meth charges

SIOUX CITY – Three men and one woman from Fort Dodge have pleaded guilty to their roles in a methamphetamine conspiracy that lasted until this past January.

Billy Jack Kloss, 35; Norman Greenfield, 25; Timothy Gailey, 46; and Nancy Larson, 54, all pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

In addition, Kloss, Greenfield and Larson pleaded guilty to one count of distributing methamphetamine, while Gailey pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine.

The four were involved in a meth conspiracy that lasted from 2012 until January 2013, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Iowa. All distributed or aided and abetted each other in the distribution of meth throughout the Fort Dodge area.

Some of the drug transactions took place within 1,000 feet of protected locations, which included St. Paul Elementary School and the playground at the former Holy Rosary School.

All four are facing between 10 years to life in prison, along with a $10 million fine. Gailey faces that same punishment on his possession conviction, while Kloss and Greenfield face between five and 80 years in prison on their distribution convictions. Larson faces between one and 40 years in prison on her distribution conviction.

Sentencing has not yet been scheduled.
