Pair of big wins for Dodgers

DES MOINES — Aubrey Alstott had a near-perfect day here Monday afternoon for the third-ranked (Class 4A) Fort Dodge softball team.

Alstott tossed a four-inning no-hitter in the opener of a doubleheader vs. Des Moines East, striking out six as the Dodgers won, 11-0. They completed the sweep with a 13-0 win in five.

She also contributed two hits and drove in four runs at the plate, as just a lone walk kept her from a perfect game.

Hope Alstott, Teryn Rippentrop, Ellie Doster and Grace Nichols each had two hits, as Hope Alstott scored twice with an RBI, a triple and a double. Rippentrop, Doster, Nichols, Calliegh Zimmerman and Emersyn Lara all drove in a run.

Doster also had a triple, as Lara and Maeleena Meyer both stole two bases.

Fort Dodge (17-2 overall) pounced on the Scarlets early, scoring six runs in the first. They added one in the second and four in the fourth.

“We just continue to pound the ball,” FDSH head coach Andi Adams said. “No matter who it is up to plate, they are crushing it. The girls have put in a lot of work and it’s exciting to see them have big nights like this constantly.”

In the nightcap, the Dodgers scored in all five innings played, including seven in the fifth. Meyer was 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs and two steals, Hope Alstott scored three times with two hits, Macy Wills, Doster and Zimmermann each drove in two, and Rylee O’Brion scored three times.

Sydney Carver tossed a two-hitter, striking out five with no walks.

Fort Dodge has a makeup doubleheader on Wednesday at Waterloo East before hosting the Fort Dodge Invitational starting Friday at Rogers Park.

Starting at $4.62/week.
