Darling addresses senators

The superintendent of the Humboldt and Twin Rivers school districts testified before the state Senate Education Committee Wednesday on the need for prompt approval of the allowable growth rate for basic aid to schools.

Greg Darling told the senators about the harm to local students that would result from failing to obey Iowa law regarding advance school funding, according to state Sen. Daryl Beall, D-Fort Dodge.

”Superintendent Darling testified eloquently, passionately and persuasively on behalf of small schools and large schools and the need to invest in local schools,” Beall said in a written statement.

The state Senate approved a 6 percent increase in allowable growth last month. The state House of Representatives has yet to take action on allowable growth.
