Russell murder trial moved to August
The trial of a Fort Dodge man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend’s mother in January 2020 has been postponed once again.
Mark David Russell, 30, is facing a first-degree murder charge after police say he killed 45-year-old Angela McLeod in her North 14th Street home on Jan. 20, 2020, following an apparent altercation that Fort Dodge Police responded to twice.
According to the police report of the incident, Russell allegedly struck McLeod at least three times with a golf club, killing her.
Russell was granted a new attorney in July 2021 and his trial was then scheduled for March 1.
On Wednesday, Russell’s attorney with the state’s Special Defense Unit filed a motion to continue the trial to Aug. 23, citing the need for additional time to prepare potential expert testimony. District Court Judge Angela Doyle granted the motion the same day.
Russell remains in the Webster County Jail on a $5 million bond.
