A Fort Dodge man has pleaded not guilty to a weapons charge in relation to a June 2020 double-homicide in the Pleasant Valley neighborhood.

Jeremiha Re Shawn Hatten, 22, of Fort Dodge, pleaded not guilty in a written arraignment in Webster County District Court on Monday.

Hatten is facing one charge of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a Class D felony, for allegedly shooting at or into an assembly of people.

According to the Fort Dodge Police Department, two people were killed and two others were injured in a volley of bullets at a family gathering in the early morning hours of June 16, 2020.

Jamael Cox, 25, and 47-year-old Tyrone Cunningham, both of Fort Dodge, were killed. Marissa Andrews, 21, of Fort Dodge, and Jayne Barton, 30, of Wesley, were injured but survived.

Hatten, along with four other men were later charged with two counts of second-degree emurder. The other four were;

• Darrell L. Jones, 23, of Fort Dodge

• James Davis Jr., 35, of Fort Dodge

• Michael J. Shivers, 55, of Eagle Grove

• Michael J. Wells, 33, of Fort Dodge

The state eventually dropped Jones’ two murder charges, as well as Wells’ two murder charges. Both were subsequently charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm as a felon. Both have pleaded guilty this past month.

The court dismissed the two second-degree murder charges against Hatten on June 28. The state then filed the charge of intimidation the same day.

Hatten’s trial is scheduled for Oct. 19 at the Webster County Courthouse.

Starting at $4.94/week.
