GoFundMe set up for family involved in Wyoming crash

Michael Hiracheta is with his injured son in Utah

A GoFundMe page has been set up for a Fort Dodge man whose family was involved in a fatal crash in Wyoming on March 2.

Michael Hiracheta’s wife, mother-in-law, and three children were traveling in a van on Interstate 80 in Sweetwater County when the van slid on the icy road and a semi-tractor trailer crashed into the back of the vehicle.

Hiracheta’s daughter, Angelena Hiracheta, 6, died at the scene.

Michael Hiracheta’s mother-in-law, Shelly Leon, of Chico, California, died at a hospital from injuries suffered in the crash.

His son, Samuel Hiracheta, 10, was airlifted by helicopter to the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Samuel Hiracheta remains hospitalized, according to Michael Hiracheta, who is in Salt Lake City with his son.

“He’s doing good right now, they have to take a bone off his skull so his brain can have room from the swelling and take the pressure off of it,” Michael Hiracheta said Friday night.

Michael Hiracheta’s wife, Ashley Hiracheta, and his oldest daughter have been released from the hospital, he said.

The GoFundMe page was set up by Deanna Knosby, a cousin of the family, to help with medical expenses.

“I am trying to help by raising money for the cost of traveling, as Michael flew out to Utah to be with their son and Ashley is flying back to Utah to be with him as well (she flew to Iowa so that she could drop the oldest daughter off with her grandmother), cost of food, and to help them with bills, and funeral expenses of their youngest daughter,” a statement on the page reads.

Knosby added, “Your kind words, thoughts, and prayers are greatly appreciated at this time as well as any donations made to help my cousin and his family during their time of need. We are very grateful for all of you who have helped already. I will continue updating as I get the information to do so. God Bless.”
