Getting to know our teachers
Fort Dodge Middle School
Jill Nelson
Where do you teach?
Fort Dodge Middle School
What grade/subject do you teach?
Behavior Special Education: Grades 5-7
Why do you teach?
I teach because of the feeling that I get helping students who struggle with behavior or social/emotional skills reach their goals and feel proud.
What is your favorite part of the school day?
I love greeting students right away in the morning so I can give them a smile and let them know each day is a fresh start.
What are you working hardest on right now?
This year has brought on many challenges for educators. I am trying my best to maintain a structured and caring classroom in all of this unpredictability for students and adults.
What are you most proud of as a teacher?
I always feel extremely proud of my students when they use the skills we have been working on, or when they reach one of the short-term goals they have set.
What makes you happiest as a teacher?
I love getting to build relationships with my students.
How do you contribute to/how are you involved in our community outside of school?
We are members of Grace Lutheran Church in town.
What are your interests/hobbies outside of school?
My 1 year old keeps me busy! Otherwise, I love to spend time with my family and friends.
What do you wish your students/families knew about you?
I wish they all knew just how much I care about each and every one of my students and that I truly have a passion for what I do.
What does Together We Rise mean to you?
We all work together to care for every single student in our district to help them succeed.
