FDMS Students earn first in Math Bee
SPENCER – Three Fort Dodge Middle School math teams competed in the Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency Regional Math Bee, held April 21 in Spencer.
More than 130 students representing 14 schools participated.
Students first competed in five timed, individual rounds with problems on number systems, expressions and equations, geometry, statistics and probability, and rations and proportional relationships. A team round followed, in which the students worked collaboratively in groups of four.
Local mathematicians on the first place team were: Isabel Beekman, Olivia Bell, Milo Hamilton and Nathan Rethwisch.
FDMS had two individual medal winners: Hamilton, who tied for sixth place, and Rethwisch, who earned first place.
Other FDMS students competing were: Chase Anderson, Foster Krug, Kadian Ott, Jesse Przbys, Drake Ayala, Michael Daniel, Austin Jorgenson, Aidan Battcher, Jadean Riley, and Carsen Newell.
