2020-21 preschool pre-registration opens Dec. 2

Preschool pre-registration for the 2020-21 school year opens Dec. 2 in the Fort Dodge Community School District. To be eligible to attend preschool in the fall of 2020, children must be 4 years old by Sept. 15, 2020. Preschool hours are 8 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., with the doors opening at 7:30 a.m. Research shows children can gain a variety of skills by attending preschool and it helps prepare them for kindergarten. St. Edmond names its KIND students of the month

The St. Edmond definition of being kind is someone who makes another feel cared for, included and encouraged. Each month during the school year, the middle school teachers will select two students in each grade who show these qualities. The November students selected by the staff for being KIND this month are eighth-graders Silvia Heldorfer and Thomas Cosgrove; seventh-graders Chloe Tracey and Cooper Marxen; and sixth-graders Aneliese Schuur and Anthony Valles.

FDSH to host Veterans Day celebration

In honor of the men and women who served and continue to serve our country, the students at Fort Dodge Senior High want to say thank you. FDSH will honor and salute our heroes, our local veterans, during a Veteran’s Day program Nov. 8, at 1:30 p.m. in the high school gym. Area veterans and their families are invited to this program. Parking will be available on the west side of the high school in the auxiliary gym parking lot. Veterans are asked to wear their uniforms if possible. FDCSD students selected to Opus Honor Choir

Brayden Schmieder and Ryan Madden, ninth-grade students at Fort Dodge Senior High, along with Jillian Leman, a sixth-grade student at Fort Dodge Middle School, were recently selected to participate in the 34th annual Opus Honor Choir. Opus Honor Choir is sponsored by the Iowa Choral Director’s Association and aims to identify and bring together the very best fifth- through ninth-grade singers from around the state to deliver a meaningful musical experience for each singer. Dodgers successful at Special Olympics Area Bowling

Forty-five Dodger athletes competed in the Special Olympics Area Bowling meet at Ridgewood Lanes on Oct. 17. Sixteen of the athletes earned first place and will move on to the state competition Nov. 23 in Des Moines.
