FDCSD students selected to Opus Honor Choir

Brayden Schmieder and Ryan Madden, ninth-grade students at Fort Dodge Senior High, along with Jillian Leman, a sixth-grade student at Fort Dodge Middle School, were recently selected to participate in the 34th annual Opus Honor Choir.

Opus Honor Choir is sponsored by the Iowa Choral Director’s Association and aims to identify and bring together the very best fifth- through ninth-grade singers from around the state to deliver a meaningful musical experience for each singer.

More than 2,600 students were nominated by their directors for 720 positions in the four Opus Honor Choirs. Selections were made by means of a recorded audition.

“Being selected to the Opus Honor Choir is a big honor for our younger singers,” said Matt Drees, Senior High vocal instructor. “All three students put many hours into preparing for their auditions, and I’m proud of them for their efforts.”

This year’s Opus Honor Choir Festival Concert will take place at 4 p.m. Nov. 21 at CY Stephens Auditorium on the Iowa State University campus.
