Trinity UMC Christmas cantata is today and Sunday

The Trinity Singers of Trinity United Methodist Church, 838 N. 25th St., are presenting the annual Christmas cantata at 5:30 p.m. today and 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the church. This year’s cantata is titled “Still the Greatest Story” and will feature the 30-member Trinity Singers as well as various solos by Nick Salmon, Ruth Babbitt, Jason Laird, Karine Feddersen and Bobbie Maltas. In addition, this year’s cantata will also include Katrina O’Brien on piano, Kevin Thompson on drums, and congregation sing-a-longs on various Christmas carols. Movie night for third to fifth graders is Dec. 18, registration required

The Friends of Webster County Conservation is holding a movie night for third to fifth graders from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 18, at the Matt Cosgrove River’s Edge Discovery Center, 20 N. First St. The movie “Abominable” will be shown. There will also be pizza, popcorn and activities. Registration is required online at mycountyparks.com. Spots are limited.

First Covenant Choir presents Christmas cantata Dec. 13 and 14

The First Covenant Choir, a 40-member group of vocalists at First Covenant Church, 201 Ave. H, will present a Christmas cantata, “There’s a New Star” at 5 p.m. on Dec. 13, and 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 14 at the church. Come and be blessed as you journey with the singers, first to the birthplace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and as we conclude this beautiful cantata with the challenge to witness to all the message of salvation.

Livermore Candy Cane Lane carriage rides are Dec. 13

LIVERMORE —The Livermore American Legion Otto Field Post 415 will open its doors at 308 Fourth Ave., Livermore, as a warm waiting area for the Candy Cane Lane carriage riders. The American Legion Auxiliary Post 415 ladies will be serving hot chocolate and cookies that are being donated by the Humboldt Hy-Vee. Candy Cane Lane lighted event is 5 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 13, with carriage rides through the Foth Candy Cane Lane to see all the lights. Freewill donations are accepted and if you would like to drive through on you own follow the lighted signs to 605 Second Ave., Livermore.

The Pub & Grub Comedy Tour at Fort Dodge Opera House Dec. 13

The Pub & Grub Comedy Tour is coming to the Fort Dodge Opera House, 1 Museum Road, at 8 p.m. on Dec. 13. Seating is at 7 p.m. The show stars comedian Derek Luna and co-satrs comedian Katie Still. Earlybird tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased at the Fort Trading Post or online at BarComicTix.com. Tickets at the door are $25. VIP tables for eight are available for $200. FDPL book club meets Monday

The Fort Dodge Public Library book club is meeting on Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the library, 424 Central Ave. We will be discussing the book, “First Lie Wins,” by Ashley Elston. Adults ages 18 and above are welcome to attend. The January book will be “A Fever in the Heartland,” by Timothy Egan and will be available for pickup at the meeting on Monday.
