To the editor: For a little over 11 years, Dr. Dan Kinney has been at the helm of Iowa Central Community College. In those 11 years he has done an outstanding job in helping to lead Iowa Central in its mission to be the premier learning community, and college of choice, preparing the best citizens and workers for our region and beyond. Beginning Jan. 1. Kinney will take over the reigns from his father as president of Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs. Says Trump delivered on promises

To the editor: I just wish to express a couple of thoughts. I want to say that I agree 100% with what Chuck Peterson wrote on his letter of Dec. 9. We have much to thank Donald Trump for as Mr. Peterson pointed out. President Trump promised us a lot of things and he delivered on just about everything he promised and as a parting shot he gave us the vaccine with no support from the Congressional Democrats or the media. In fact, House Democrats turned down an offer of $1.8 trillion for COVID relief and now we are getting $900 billion, a giant loss for all those needing it to survive. ...

Appreciates support for Coats for Kids

To the editor: The Community Health Center of Fort Dodge and Shimkat Motor Co. would like to thank the community for their outpouring of support for the Coats for Kids coat drive. This joint project collects coat donations both new and gently used as well as other winter items to distribute to children in our community who are without a warm coat facing our cold Iowa winter. We asked and our community answered! We were able to provide coats to local schools as well as giving out over 500 coats during our drive-thru distribution day. To the editor: The team and residents at Friendship Haven would like to send out a huge thank you to the community for the gift and card drive that was done for the benefit of our residents on Dec. 20. Your outpouring of support, in this time that has been especially difficult for long term care, was felt and is appreciated more than words can express. Celestial event is tonight

On Dec. 20-22 of 2020 the celestial event of a lifetime will occur. The planets Jupiter and Saturn will appear to come together to form a bright object in the southwestern sky, most pronounced on Dec. 21, the winter solstice. Jupiter and Saturn will appear 14 degrees above the horizon in the constellation of Capricorn.
