To the editor: Remember the chant “no border, no wall, sanctuary for all”? It has become a reality. President Biden has opened our southern border to perhaps millions of illegal immigrants, making our border a magnet for drugs, criminals, human and sex trafficking, threatening the safety and security of our country. Then will come “chain migration” whereby any relative will be allowed to join those already here. To the editor: I really enjoyed Eric Pratt’s March 22 article spotlighting Spencer Lee’s NCAA wrestling title; but I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize his outstanding reporting of area athletics. My own arsenal of athletic knowledge is woefully inadequate, but I appreciate Pratt’s sports coverage because he is a master of profiling his subjects. As a retired Fort Dodge Senior High teacher and the grandmother of two former Fort Dodge athletes, I know firsthand that there is more to these young competitors than what the fans see in the arenas. To the editor: Every spring we are required to adjust the clocks 1 hour. This causes half of our fellow citizens to complain. Likewise, in the fall, comes the requirement to adjust the clocks 1 hour. This seems to cause great distress to the other half. One possible compromise would be to adjust the clocks one-half hour, one time and then quit. We could all get upset at once and then go on to find more important things to complain about. It would make absolutely no difference timewise if this one-time change happened in the spring or fall. To the editor: I’m reading in The Messenger that the Childcare Discovery Center will receive $600,000 over a period of years to relocate, which I applaud, however, all that grant accomplishes is to keep the status quo and a new building will require time to build and the Childcare Discovery children will need to go somewhere to go for care while it is being built. To the editor: Thank you to those responsible for producing The Messenger. We are fortunate to have this newspaper six days a week, although I did enjoy having that seventh day. The number of newspapers in the United States that are able to survive has decreased significantly in the past few years. I am thankful that the careful financial planning of The Messenger has allowed it to stay in production.
