A thank you for the light in the tunnel

To the editor:

Working for a non-profit Community Action Agency, you tend to see people on their worst days. Days when they truly feel like they have hit rock bottom and there is no way up. They don’t know where to turn, but they know they need help and they find themselves at our door not knowing if there is even anything we can do for them. Upper Des Moines Opportunity sees different issues every day; people struggling to make ends meet, needing help with budgeting, cannot pay their electric/gas bill, looking for housing, in need of baby necessities or supplies for their child’s birthday, some food to get them by, and many, many other difficulties. These Webster County residents, your neighbors, friends, and maybe even family, rely on the generosity of those in their communities to assist them in staying afloat while they are working to get back on their feet. We offer services that are ran from donations given by those generous individuals, families, and businesses from all over the county; people wanting to just give a little to help those who need it the most.

On behalf of the many people who work for Upper Des Moines Opportunity, we here at the Webster County Outreach office want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to call to see if there is anything they can do to help and to those who have given monetary donations and items to our programs and services that we offer. Without all of this, we wouldn’t be able to assist nearly as many people as we do every day. Your kindness fills all of our hearts and gives hope to individuals, families, and who truly needed just a little step toward seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
