SE class of 2022 is a special group

To the editor: There is something to be said about having a best friend, but my son, Zach Smith, is lucky enough to say he has more than one best friend. Maybe I’m saying this because it’s my last child to graduate high school and I’m a little emotional about it, but there is something to be said about this group of seniors at St. Edmond High School. They are the tightest group I have seen in years. They are so close doing almost everything together, swimming and jumping on the trampoline at our house to road trip just to go eat somewhere, to driving to Des Moines to check out ...

Wants all CO2 sequestered

To the editor: Thousands of miles of pipeline that’s planned that’s going to make Iowa the pipeline state. What would it be if Iowa was called the pipeline state and thousands of acres of trees had to be destroyed and many buildings destroyed/removed to make way for the 50-foot right-of-way? There should be stricter rules on this pipeline business. I make a rule that they have to be required to collect both the CO2 from producing the ethanol and all the CO2 from consumers consuming, burning the ethanol. Collecting and sequestering all the CO2 from everyone that uses ethanol ...

Urges COVID vaccines

To the Editor: COVID numbers are falling. They are the lowest in Webster County since the pandemic began two years ago. Personally, I am ready to live my life, as it was, pre-COVID. With that being said, we know that COVID sneaks in and steals life from humans. I have friends and family that have lingering symptoms and after-effects from COVID. I have lost friends and family members from the terrible disease. We have all changed vastly since the inception of COVID. Although I personally was never infected with COVID, I chose to get vaccinated and boostered and chose for my kids ...

To the editor: Armstrong Williams, in his op-ed titled “Biden’s nine-word gaffe may cause countless tragedies” (Messenger Opinion page, April 1) addressed two gaffes President Biden made while in Europe in March. Williams touched on Biden’s remarks made in Poland to troops of the 82nd Airborne Division “when you get to Ukraine” and touched on what Biden said about Russian President Putin “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power.” A Biden gaffe Williams did not write of was when Biden, in Belgium, just prior to his visit to Poland, was asked how we would ...
