Supports Haley for president

To the editor: Wouldn’t it be great if the president understood small town America? That’s one of the reasons I’m supporting Nikki Haley for president and encouraging my friends and neighbors in Webster County to vote for her at the Jan. 15 caucus. Nikki was born and raised in a town not much different than Webster City. At 14, she started helping with the bookkeeping at her family business. On loneliness

To the editor: Loneliness is having a moment. We are reaching epidemic levels of lonesomeness, and why? In a society that is more connected than ever, with smart devices out the wazoo connected to the internet, metaverse, the ether, to infinity and beyond, why still the constant barrage of loneliness? Loneliness is a peculiar notion. It can be felt in a crowded room, and then be relieved when alone and vice versa. It lurks in that negative internalized feeling we express in the sorrow of isolation. Is everyone having a mental health crisis? Perhaps. More services are certainly needed. ...

To the editor: I have supported Donald Trump for president in both the 2016 and 2020 elections with votes and letters to the editor. That support has changed. I believe Donald Trump, president at the time, had direct and, in my opinion, sole responsibility for the Republican loss of both runoff elections for senator in Georgia on Jan. 5, 2021, that allowed Democrats to take control of the Senate in Biden’s first year in office. Evening Lions had successful raffle

The Fort Dodge Evening Lions Grocery Raffle has been completed at Rides Event Center with the drawing of five winners of $200 worth of gift cards to Hy-Vee, Fareway and Walmart. Recommends donations as gifts

To the editor: It’s that time of the year when so many area nonprofits need extra help. It’s also that time of the year when I hear friends lamenting “I don’t have any idea what to get my grandchildren for Christmas. I guess I’ll just get them a gift card.” I have a suggestion. This year make a donation to a local charity or organization in the name of your grandchildren. Help them realize the joy of giving to others. Thanksgiving meal is celebrated

To the editor: Thanksgiving day showed the true spirit of Fort Dodge coming together. WHO television made a surprise visit on Thanksgiving day to the dealership, picking up the story from an earlier Messenger article. It was gratifying to see the positive and compassionate side of Fort Dodge for all of central Iowa viewing during three separate news casts. Once again, well over 100 volunteers came to spend their Thanksgiving day to help others. Donations from Hy-Vee, Friendship Haven, Community Orchard, Becker Florists, Douglas Dreamers 4-H Club and UnityPoint hospital made the day ...
