Decker supports franchise fees

To the editor:

As a proud graduate of Iowa Central Community College and Drake University, with a deep-rooted history in the transportation industry and having our headquarters based in the community for over 90 years, I write today in support of the proposed franchise fees that have been laid out by the city of Fort Dodge. This initiative is not just about generating revenue or creating an “additional tax;” it’s about laying the groundwork for a sustainable future for our city.

The introduction of franchise fees represents a pivotal opportunity for Fort Dodge to enhance its public safety measures, specifically through the addition of more police officers. In a business like ours, where safety is paramount, I recognize the importance of a well-staffed and equipped police force. This move will not only ensure the safety of our residents, but also signal to businesses and potential investors that Fort Dodge is a secure place to invest.

Moreover, the reduction of the debt service tax levy through the implementation of franchise fees is a testament to our city’s commitment to fiscal responsibility. As someone who has navigated the complexities of business finance and economic strategies, I understand the significance of reducing debt and the positive impact it can have on both our community’s economic health and the individual financial burden of our citizens. This strategic approach will free up resources that can be redirected towards further development and growth opportunities within Fort Dodge.

Infrastructure and quality of life initiatives are the bedrock of any community’s growth and prosperity. The proposed franchise fees will provide essential funding for these areas. Whether it’s maintaining roads, enhancing public spaces or investing in community programs, these funds will help sustain and improve the very infrastructure that supports our daily lives and economic activities.

At Decker Truck Line Inc., we have always believed in the importance of giving back to the community that has supported us. From our base in Fort Dodge to our terminals across North America, we have seen the tangible benefits that come from investing in the communities we serve. It is with this perspective that I wholeheartedly support the proposed franchise fees. This initiative is more than a financial strategy; it’s a commitment to the future of Fort Dodge.

I urge my fellow community members to consider the long-term benefits of these franchise fees. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter future for Fort Dodge, grounded in safety, fiscal health and a strong infrastructure. Let’s embrace this opportunity to make a lasting positive impact on our community.
