Victims of head-on crash named

WEBSTER CITY — The Iowa State Patrol released the names of the two drivers who died in the crash on U.S. Highway 20 in Hamilton County Wednesday. According to the Iowa State Patrol accident report, Joseph Kennedy, 69, of Alden, who was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene. Aaron Scott Gomez, 40, of Harlingen, Texas, was driving a 2020 Ram 1500 pickup. Gomez was taken to the Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City, where he was pronounced deceased. WEBSTER CITY — A two vehicle accident has claimed the lives of both drivers Wednesday near Webster City. The crash occurred shortly after noon when a car entered the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 20, traveling eastbound. According to a press release from the Webster City Police Department, officers from that department and deputies from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area in an attempt to intercept the wrong-way vehicle. EMS leader to work in southern Webster County

A higher level of pre-hospital care will be more readily available to residents of southern Webster County when the new emergency medical service coordinator begins working there. Scott Richard, a paramedic, will respond with the Dayton Rescue Squad and Southwest Webster Emergency Medical Service when those units have calls involving the most seriously ill and injured patients. On a regular basis, emergency medical service providers and firefighters in Webster County get called to help pick someone up off the floor or the ground. These kinds of responses are called lift assists. They are often defined as situations in which someone falls from a standing or sitting position, is not hurt, but cannot get up by themselves. To ensure that a trained emergency medical responder assesses a person in need of a lift assist, the Fort Dodge Fire Department will begin responding to those calls in the northern half of Webster County.
