A Webster County man stands accused of using the Snapchat social media platform to try to entice a child into sexual activity, according to court records.
Spencer H. Peterson, 33, of Callender, was arrested by Webster County sheriff's deputies and charged with grooming and telephone dissemination of obscene material to a minor, first offense, court records indicate.
The incident happened June 15. Peterson was arrested on Sunday.
In criminal complaints filed against him, deputies wrote that he used Snapchat "to attempt to seduce, solicit, lure or entice a child or a person he believed to be a child to commit any unlawful sex act or engage in unlawful sexual conduct."
They also wrote that he used the platform to send obscene material.
Peterson made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Monday. Magistrate Brandy R. Lundy scheduled a preliminary hearing for Sept. 2. She also set bond for Peterson at $7,000 cash only.
