‘Ready to roll’

The fall semester at Iowa Central Community College began Monday with 8 a.m. classes and goodies served up by college President Jesse Ulrich.
"We had a really good kickoff to the fall semester," Ulrich said Monday afternoon. "We're ready to roll."
For decades, it has been a tradition of Iowa Central presidents to offer treats to students making their way to classes on the first morning of the fall semester. Now called Pizza With the Pres, Monday's menu included breakfast pizza plus doughnuts from the Community Orchard in Fort Dodge.
In the evening, the students were treated to a barbecue. Ulrich said special events are scheduled throughout the week to get students engaged in campus life.
Total enrollment numbers won't be nailed down for several days. Ulrich said what college administrators call the "10-day count" will be the official enrollment number. He added that he expects that number to be up about 1 percent from the fall semester of 2025.
What is known is the number of students living in the dormitories on campus.
There are 1,150 people living in student housing, Ulrich said.
About 400 of them moved in on Sunday, which Ulrich said was the biggest single moving day. The rest of the students living on campus, especially members of fall sports teams, began moving in starting in late July.
