A Fort Dodge police officer will remain on the beat in local public schools thanks to an agreement approved Monday by the City Council.
The council unanimously OK'd an agreement with the Fort Dodge Community School District that provides for a school resource officer.
Under the terms of the agreement, the school district will pay the city $69,753.30 for the school resource officer in the current fiscal year.
In the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2027, the district will pay the city $71,148.36.
Then in the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2028, the district will pay the city $72,571.33.
The council approved the agreement with no discussion.
The Fort Dodge Police Department has had a school resource officer program in the local school district since 2017. Currently, there is one officer assigned. Early in the program’s history there were two.
"This partnership has proven to improve school security, bridge the gap between youth and police and provided a mentor to students," Police Chief Dennis Quinn wrote in a report to the council.
