Duncombe school starts fundraiser

The Duncombe Elementary Student Lighthouse team is hosting a Valentine’s Day Candy Gram Fundraiser to help raise money for the purchase of a washer and dryer for the building. Students can purchase candy grams for other students, or parents and adults can order them for students. Each candy gram will include a piece of candy and is just $2. Candy grams can be filled out and purchased at the school from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. until Feb. 13. There is a booth run by the Lighthouse team located inside the main entrance at Duncombe Elementary School, 1620 Sixth Ave. N.

FD council to hold budget session

The Fort Dodge City Council will continue working on the proposed 2024-2025 budget when it meets tonight. The council will meet at 5 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S. Council members will review the spending plans for the fire and parks, recreation and forestry departments. It will also look at the proposed budgets for Dodger Area Rapid Transit, the city clerk’s office, legal services, information technology, Municipal Building maintenance and employee benefits. There will not be a business meeting, and there will be no action on the proposed franchise fees.

Sister Saturday is Feb. 10

Main Street Fort Dodge’s annual Sister Saturday shopping event is next Saturday starting at 10 a.m. in downtown Fort Dodge. In honor of the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday, many downtown merchants will have special deals and sales. Shoppers at participating stores can also enter to win a gift basket filled with goodies from several downtown businesses. Algona airport receives grant

ALGONA — The Algona Municipal Airport also recently received a federal aviation grant. It received $360,000. That money will pay for new vehicles and attachments for snow removal operations.

St. Paul to have kindergarten roundup

St. Paul Lutheran Church and School will hold kindergarten roundup at 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the school, 1217 Fourth Ave. S. All parents of children who will be 5 by Sept. 15 are invited to learn more about St. Paul Kindergarten roundup will include a presentation by the principal, a tour of the school, a fun activity, and a photo opportunity. Churdan woman killed in crash

SIOUX CITY — A Churdan woman was killed in a crash in Sioux City Wednesday afternoon, not long after state troopers gave up their pursuit of her vehicle. The Iowa State Patrol identified her as Melissa Thede, 40. Another driver involved in the crash, 29-year-old Hector Alvarez Collazo, of Sioux City, suffered what troopers described as minor injuries and was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City. The State Patrol reported that Thede was spotted speeding and driving erratically in a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Troopers attempted to stop her and the pursuit continued ...
