BADGER -- A man was injured when the car he was driving hit a utility pole in Badger early Friday afternoon.

Webster County Chief Deputy Sheriff Derek Christie identified the man as Phillip Allen, of Clare. He said Allen was taken to UnityPoint Health -- Trinity Regional Medical Center with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred at 12:15 p.m. on West Center Avenue at the northwest edge of Badger.

Christie said a witness told deputies that Allen's Toyota Corolla pulled up to a stop sign, then sped away, went off the road and hit the utility pole. He said the crash remains under investigation.

Badger firefighters and an ambulance from the Fort Dodge Fire Department responded along with deputies.
