BADGER — A man was injured when the car he was driving hit a utility pole in Badger early Friday afternoon. Webster County Chief Deputy Sheriff Derek Christie identified the man as Phillip Allen, of Clare. He said Allen was taken to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. The crash occurred at 12:15 p.m. on West Center Avenue at the northwest edge of Badger. Christie said a witness told deputies that Allen’s Toyota Corolla pulled up to a stop sign, then sped away, went off the road and hit the utility pole. ...
The Fort Dodge Police Department is investigating an incident of gunfire that happened Friday afternoon. No one was injured. At 2:08 p.m., 911 dispatchers received a report of shots fired in the 1800 block of First Avenue South. Officers determined that shots had been fired. Witnesses were interviewed and physical evidence was collected. Schnurr & Co. LLP, certified public accountants and consultants, released an audit report on the Region V Hazardous Materials Response Commission in Fort Dodge. The commission’s revenues totaled $234,381 for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2023, the firm reported. That is a 33.4 percent decrease from the prior fiscal year, according to the auditors. A Fort Dodge resident was named to the Dean’s List for the 2023 fall semester at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Kelli Kersten is a junior in the Carlson School of Management. To qualify for the Dean’s List, she had to complete 12 or more credits while attaining a 3.66 grade point average.
