Special council election held in Lehigh

LEHIGH — A special election was held in Lehigh Tuesday to fill two unexpired terms on the City Council. June Richardson won 35 votes to serve a two year term, according to unofficial election results released by Webster County Auditor Doreen Pliner. She was the only candidate on the ballot for that race. Mark Demery won 30 votes to serve a four-year term, according to those unofficial election results. He was the only candidate on the ballot for that race.

Brush fire reported in Fort Dodge Monday

A large brush fire broke out on the south end of Fort Dodge Monday night. The fire was on a wooded hill, south of 15th Avenue South between 28th and 32nd streets. It was reported at about 7:45 p.m. Firefighters from Fort Dodge, Duncombe and Otho responded. Some of them were still on the scene at about 9:30 p.m. Fort Dodge police closed 15th Avenue South between 28th and 32nd streets.

Lane closure set on Fifth Avenue South

One eastbound lane in the 1500 block of Fifth Avenue South will be closed beginning today and lasting through Wednesday, according to an announcement from the Fort Dodge Public Works Department. The traffic lights at Fifth Avenue South and 15th Street will be flashing red until the road is reopened to normal traffic flow. This traffic restriction is necessary so that a fire hydrant can be replaced.

Almost Home to offer free pit bull adoptions

Everyone is familiar with St. Patrick’s Day, but how many know about St. Pittie’s Day? The Almost Home Humane Society of North Central Iowa will celebrate that pet-centric holiday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the animal shelter, 732 S. 32nd St. During that time, every adoption of a pit bull or pit bull mixed breed dog will be free. While there will be no adoption fee, people must have an approved application to adopt on file with the humane society.

Fort Dodge police investigating gunshot

The Fort Dodge Police Department is investigating a gunshot that was fired Wednesday afternoon. No one was injured. At 12:52 p.m., 911 dispatchers received a report of a shot being fired in the 1600 block of Fifth Avenue South. Responding officers determined that a shot had been fired a block east in the 1700 block of Fifth Avenue South. Witnesses were interviewed and physical evidence was collected.
