Students in the Arts recognizes Iowa Central students

Students in the Arts has announced the Iowa Central Community College students who have been recognized for excellence by their instructor for the second semester in the performing and visual arts programs. Vocal — Daniel Johnson, Cameron Swanson, Samantha Carroll, and Eriana Howard. Band and Orchestra — Leon Urias, Michaela Henry, Fernando Salazar, and Natalie Baack. Visual Art — Jasmary Erazo, Abelina Escalante, and Emily Crowley. Photography — Karinna Laugen and Irasemma Gonzalez. Theater — Zoey Aune, Dart Dohrn, Jamison Gibson, and Emily Schaffer.

Miles of Pennies to benefit FDCSD schools

A penny might not mean a lot to one person’s bank account, but for the Fort Dodge Community School District, pennies will lead to new educational resources. Miles of Pennies, an annual school fundraising campaign, has proven just how far a penny can go. This year Miles of Pennies will run from today to April 26. Miles of Pennies challenges students and staff at each school to collect loose change to meet their fundraising goal. Battle of the Books is on at Duncombe

At Duncombe Elementary March Madness means books. For the second year, fourth-grade students are participating in a March Madness Book Bracket. Kristin Hatton, fourth-grade teacher, saw the idea on Facebook. “I shared the idea with the other fourth-grade teachers and we decided to do this for the entire grade level,” she said. Each fourth-grade student listed the top five books he or she read this year. The Fort Dodge Community School District has announced its students and employees of the month for April. This program recognizes one elementary, one middle school and one high school student, as well as one staff member monthly for exceeding expectations. Harper Sandahl is the elementary student of the month. Shannon Grossnickle nominated her. She said Sandahl takes her time to ensure her assignments are done to the best of her ability.
