Algona H.S. musicians selected for ‘All-State’
ALGONA — Seven Algona High School musicians were selected through audition for membership in the Iowa Music Educators Association and the Iowa High School Music Association’s annual All-State Band and Chorus in Storm Lake. The 70th annual Iowa All-State Music Festival will be held in Ames Nov. 16-18.
Selected to perform in the 2017 Iowa All-State Band are: Sam Hood, clarinet (senior), daughter of Lisette Wiltse and Jim Bosworth of Algona; Kellen Schmidt, trombone (senior), son of Ryan and Erin Schmidt of Burt; Jene Eden, trombone (senior), daughter of Steve and Anita Eden of Wesley; Myra Meyer, horn (senior), daughter of Rodney and Bonita Meyer of Burt.
Selected to perform in the 2017 Iowa All-State Chorus are:
Anna Cox, alto (senior), daughter of Ben and Pam Cox of Algona; Caleb Hommez, tenor (sophomore), son of Mike and Susan Hommez of Algona; Tatum Phelps, soprano (junior), daughter of Michael and Shelley Phelps of Lone Rock.
In addition to the students accepted into All-State, Caleb Christensen (sophomore), Abby Groen (junior), Ryan Merrill (freshman), Paige Nygaard (junior), Alexia Tebben (junior) were recalled to the second round of vocal auditions.
The Algona High School music educators are Jamie Kelley, director of choral activities, and Kurt Kissinger, instrumental music director.
