No. 4 Triton men hold off Iowa Lakes on the road
ESTHERVILLE — The fourth-ranked Iowa Central men went on the road and secured a key ICCAC victory, holding off Iowa Lakes here Saturday, 80-78.
CJ Mitchell and Jalen Wynter each scored 20 points, knocking down a combined nine 3-pointers for the Tritons (11-0 overall, 3-0 in the league). Manny Lueth and Aleix Sempere joined them in double figures, as Lueth scored 17 while Sempere had 16 with 14 rebounds.
Iowa Central sank 14 triples as a team, building a 43-38 halftime advantage. Mitchell scored 16 in the opening 20 minutes — including four 3-pointers — and Sempere had 11 with seven of his rebounds.
“Iowa Lakes is a tough place to play, and Jason McKinney does a great job getting his group ready,” ICCC head coach Mason Denholm said. “I’m really proud of our effort to find a way to get the job done. Road wins are never easy in the ICCAC, so when you can get one, you take it however it comes.”
For the Lakers, Germaal Forde scored 16 while Jermaine Freeman had 13.
Mitchell also collected six rebounds with five assists and two steals. Wynter had four rebounds and two steals.
Dorian Pruitt added seven points off the bench.
Up next for the Tritons will be a clash with No. 5 Kirkwood at Hodges Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
