Manson NW hosts Wood Invite

MANSON — The St. Edmond wrestling squad finally hit the mats for the first time here on Saturday, competing in the annual Doug Wood Invitational hosted by Manson Northwest Webster.

Matthew Crimmins led the way for the Gaels, as the sophomore returning state qualifier advanced to the 144-pound final with a pair of wins.

Crimmins, who pinned Memphis Sease of South Central Calhoun in 54 seconds and Gable VanOort from Alta-Aurelia in the second period, fell in the championship match to Gavin Wiig from Woodbury Central.

Hudson Blank took fifth for St. Edmond at 106 pounds. Nick Utley, Jace Stanley, Cooper Cokeley, Owen Rutherford, Sam Touney and Evan Knox were all in action as well for the Gaels.

Touney picked up a pin with two seconds left in the second round at 165 pounds vs. Maddux Becker of South Hamilton.

Woodbury Central took top team honors, with Manson Northwest Webster placing third and South Central Calhoun fourth. East Sac County was sixth and West Bend-Mallard seventh.

Karson Wuebker, Curtis Bullock and Jace Pedersen all claimed individual titles for the Titans, as did Hunter Lester for WB-M.

Mason Anderson was a runner-up for the Cougars. Oliver Engel, Dawson Allen and Cal McCollough each placed second for the Raiders.

Up next for the Gaels will be a North Central Conference trinagular on Thursday in Clear Lake with the Lions and Iowa Falls-Alden.
