Algona stuns No. 4 Heelan
ALGONA — The Algona football team capped and wild day with an upset of No. 4 Bishop Heelan here Friday on Senior Night, 21-13.
The school district received a threat early that closed the buildings for the entire day. After a sweep found no credible evidence, it was decided that the game would go on as scheduled.
Nathan Manske ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns, adding a third score and 122 more yards in the air to lead the way for the Bulldogs.
Evan Allie caught the touchdown, finishing with 58 yards, as Tate Garman caught three passes for 59.
Algona had lost four straight coming in, with three of those being by five points or less.
The loss was the first for the fourth-ranked (Class 3A) Crusaders against a 3A team, as they fell to 5A Sioux City East in double-overtime earlier this year for their only other setback.
