Wildcats fall short on road

SIOUX CENTER — The Humboldt football squad didn’t go away quietly in their final regular season game here on Friday.

The Wildcats (4-5 overall, 2-3 Class 3A, District 1) trailed 20-0, but pieced together two straight scoring drives to cut the lead to one possession.

The fifth-ranked Warriors (8-1, 4-1) scored two touchdowns within one minute to close out the 34-13 victory and the runner up spot in the district.

Quarterback Ezra Hibma scored the opening touchdown on a 10-yard run. Sioux Center used a 16-play 95-yard drive for the first points.

Cody Sandbulte put the Warriors up 13-0 with a nine-yard scoring jaunt. The lead was extended by Hibma to Austin Fink’s seven-yard strike.

The Wildcats got on the board on a 60-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Flaherty to his twin brother, Chase Flaherty.

The Humboldt defense turned the Warriors away on a three-and-out. Humboldt then put together a seven-minute drive and concluded on a three-yard run from Jackson Flaherty.

Hibma then hit Cooper Moeller on a four-yard strike.

The Wildcats fumbled, and Sandbulte took it in for the score.

Starting at $4.94/week.
