ROCKWELL CITY — Three family pets were saved from a house fire Friday morning thanks to a retired police officer who was out on a morning walk.
According to Rockwell City Fire Chief Shane Voith, the officer called 911 and then after noticing that the owner was not home, went into the home at 817 Court St. and rescued a dog. Two cats were later located and are said to be fine.
Upon arrival at the home, firefighters knocked the fire down quickly. According to Voith, initial investigation into the fire points towards an electrical malfunction in a second story bedroom.
Assisting at the scene were the Manson Volunteer Fire Department, Rockwell City Police, Calhoun County Emergency Management, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and Calhoun County EMS.
