Champ Algona moving 11 through to state
SIOUX CENTER — The Algona wrestling team added a Class 2A district title to the state duals crown they won earlier this year here Saturday, while also moving 11 to the state tournament this week.
Winning individual district titles for the Bulldogs were Isaac Wilson, Ashton Moreno, Tate Slagle, Carter McGregor and Gavin Goche while Teague Alesch, Thomas Zabka, CJ McGregor, Barrett Morgan, Tayten Rummel and Jack Limbaugh each placed second.
Algona finished with 240 points, well ahead of runner-up Estherville-Lincoln Central and third place Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley.
Clarion-Goldfield/Dows wins district title
WEBSTER CITY — The Clarion-Goldfield/Dows wrestling team continued their strong postseason, winning a Class 2A district title while sending nine to state.
The Cowboys, who were third at state duals recently, racked up 213.5 points to finish ahead of Union LaPorte City, Woodward-Granger and host Webster City here on Saturday.
Punching tickets to state for Clarion-Goldfield/Dows as individual champions were Adrian Phetxoumphone, Colin Sesker, Caleb Seaba, Ryland Morgan, Charlie Campbell and JT Kelso. Paxton Redenius, Angel Cortes and Linden Phetxoumphone advanced as district silver medalists.
The Lynx were able to qualify two, as Luke Estlund and Cody Elliott earned spots as runner-ups.
Emmetsburg sending four to state
EMMETSBURG — The Emmetsburg wrestling team locked up four bids to the state tournament through a Class 1A district meet here on Saturday.
CJ Rodriguez, Justin Wirtz, Ryan Wirtz and Nick Saxton all were individual champions for the E-Hawks, who placed fourth overall.
West Bend-Mallard’s Mason Knapp will join them, as he placed first at 106 pounds. Knapp is 36-5 on the year after earning two falls. Max Merrill and Brennan Bollinger of North Union both punched their tickets as silver medalists.
