Clean sweep for Gael girls vs. Clear Lake

The St. Edmond girls tennis team pushed their record to 4-0 on the year with another sweep at the nets here Tuesday evening.

The Gaels downed North Central Conference rival Clear Lake, 9-0, as they have now won 18 consecutive singles and doubles matches and are 33-3 on the year.

Lauren Gibb and Payton Bradley picked up 8-1 victories for St. Edmond (4-0 overall, 2-0 in league) at the No. 1 and 2 singles positions. Ava Andrew, Cambree Lunn, Ava Underberg and Abby Huss followed with wins.

Andrew pulled out an 8-5 victory, with Lunn and Huss posting matching 8-1 triumphs. Underberg earned an 8-4 victory.

In doubles, Gibb and Bradley downed the top Lion team, 8-1, with Andrew and Lunn claiming an 8-2 victory. The final doubles match saw Underberg and Chloe Palmer pair up to win 8-0.

“The girls came to play and took care of business,” SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. “I love the way that all of them played.”

Over the past two seasons, the Gaels have gone 13-2 in duals including 6-0 in the conference.

In junior varsity doubles action, Lucy Midtling and Maddie Cripe were winners.

St. Edmond returns to action next Tuesday when they head to Assembly Park to meet Iowa Falls-Alden. The next home dual for the Gaels will take place Thursday, April 18 vs. Nevada in a rescheduled match.
