WICHITA, Kan. — Win No. 99 made Carson Taylor an All-American for the fourth straight season.
Taylor, a Fort Dodge Senior High graduate and former Dodger state champion, will get his chance at No. 100 now in the consolation semifinals.
For the fourth straight season Taylor has been tabbed as an All-American, joining Clarion-Goldfield/Dows graduate Justin Portillo as back-to-back four timers.
The top-seed at 133 pounds, Taylor suffered a 14-3 major decision loss to Thaddeus Long (13-4) of Life in the semis.
Long is a transfer from Central Oklahoma. Last year, he was at Carl Albert State before heading to Life.
Taylor reached the semifinals for the fourth straight season. In the quarterfinals earlier on Friday, he beat eighth-seeded Andrew Voiles of Southeastern, 10-3.
Taylor has been fourth, third and a national runner-up, losing to an Olympian in the finals. He is now 99-17 in his Viking career, and 13-5 in the national tournament.
In the consolation semis, Taylor will meet No. 5 seed and teammate Jackson Cockrell (32-6) for the right to advance to the third-place match. Cockrell won his first match and lost in the second round. He has reeled off four consecutive victories since that point.
Action will begin here at 11 a.m., with the placement round and medal round. Championship matches are at 7 p.m.
Grand View, which is chasing its 12th title in the last 13 seasons, has five finalists. The Vikings are currently in first place with 180.5 points. Life is a distant second with 136 points.
