Humboldt makes state

BALLARD — The ninth-ranked Humboldt wrestling team is headed to the state duals tournament.

The Wildcats knocked off No. 8 Ballard here Tuesday night in a Class 2A regional final on a tiebreaker.

After Aden Prenger recorded a fall at 113 pounds to even the score at 37-37, a forfeit to Cyler Cirks at 132 was the deciding factor.

The Wildcats will compete this Saturday in Coralville.

Owen Mayall, Tyce Clarken, Cyler Cirks, Jaxson Kirchhoff, Broedy Hendricks and Gaige Allen also earned wins vs. the Bombers. Mayall and Clarken recorded falls.

In a 34-31 victory over No. 24 Williamsburg to advance, Sam Knight picked up a fall in the final match at 106 for the Wildcats.

Mayall, Clarken, Cirks, Kirchhoff, Hendricks and Gaige Allen were also winners. Clarken, Circks and Hendricks each scored falls.

Algona advances

ALGONA — The seventh-ranked Algona wrestling team took care of No. 21 New Hampton/Turkey Valley here Tuesday night, 43-24.

With the win, the Bulldogs advance to the Class 2A state duals tournament, which will take place this Saturday. This marks their first appearance at state duals in program history.

Hunter Kollasch, Thomas Zabka, Isaac Wilson, Elijah Wilhite Barrett Morgan, Ashton Moreno, Tate Slagle, Taevyn Zinnel and Dane Kitzinger all picked up victories for Algona.

Zabka, Wilson, Wilhite and Slagle all earned falls.

Lynx bow out

SERGEANT BLUFF — The 17th-ranked Webster City wrestling team dropped a Class 2A regional dual contest to No. 11 Glenwood here Tuesday night, 39-30.

Carson Doolittle, Adrian Phetxoumphone, Gavin Wynkoop, Blake Berninghaus, Tristan Mason, Luke Estlund and Linden Phetxoumphone all picked up wins. Doolittle, Estlund and Linden Phetxoumphone each won by fall.

E-Hawks bounced

NASHUA — The 12th-ranked Emmetsburg wrestling team fell in the Class 1A regional final here Tuesday night to No. 5 Nashua-Plainfield, 70-12.

Picking up wins for the E-Hawks in the finals were Gage Jorgenson, and Justin Wirtz, as both picked up falls.

Emmetsburg downed No. 22 Central Springs to make the finals, 46-27.

Ryan Wirtz, Nick Saxton, Jorgenson, CJ Rodriguez, Gage Ditch, Creighton Zeigler, Wirtz and Jace Nelson-Brown all claimed wins.
