Busy stretch for St. Edmond
The St. Edmond basketball team will play three games in four days as they begin with a road trip to Webster City on Tuesday.
The St. Edmond boys (6-6 overall) start the week looking for the season sweep at Webster City (1-8). On Thursday they’ll host West Bend-Mallard (3-10).
Friday’s contest will be against No. 1 Clear Lake (11-0).
The Gael girls (2-10 overall) will look for the season sweep over the Lynx (0-13). Thursday’s action will be at home against West Bend-Mallard (8-5), and they’ll finish the week Friday in the Gael gym against Clear Lake (7-6).
All games will by girl/boy doubleheades starting at 6:15 p.m.
The Gael boys won the first meeting with the Lynx, 64-56. Hunter Horn led the way with 22 points, while Sam Mericle had 12. Cole Miller had 12 for Webster City, while Trevyn Lyons and Braden Doering checked in with 10 and nine, respectively.
Miller (12) and Lyons (10) pace the Lynx in averages.
Horn is scoring at a 20-point clip, while Mericle is at 12 per night.
The Wolverines won the last meeting between the two schools in January of 2023, 59-38. Jaxon Zaugg (15.4 points) and Landon Montag (14.2) anchor WB-M.
In the first meeting earlier this season, the Gaels lost 72-37 to top-ranked Clear Lake. Horn had 16 points. Thomas Meyer led the Lions with 17, followed by Titan Schmitt (14) and Dylan Litzel (10).
The Gael girls won the first contest with Webster City at home, 55-41. Chloe Palmer tallied 17 points for St. Edmond and Josie Harvey added 14.
Olivia Gallentine had 11 for Webster City.
Palmer (8), and Harvey (7.2) are the Gaels’ leading scorers. Gallentine’s nine points per game tops the Lynx.
West Bend-Mallard is led by Kierstin Montag’s 14.3 points per game and Tiffany Fehr is scoring 10.8 per night.
Earlier this season, Clear Lake beat the Gael girls, 48-22. Madi Ott had 21 for the Lions and Addie Doughan contributed 14.
