WEBSTER CITY — The St. Edmond softball team pushed their win streak to eight in a row, earning their first shutout of the season here on Friday night.
The Gaels (8-0 overall, 3-0 in the North Central Conference) posted a 10-0 victory over Webster City (2-4, 1-3).
Sophomore Toryn Helle (8-0) had another strong outing, throwing seven innings of four hit ball. She struck out 10 and didn’t walk a batter.
“Toryn has been pitching well and she did it again (on Friday),” said SEHS head coach Bill Shirbroun. “She was able to keep their hitters off balance.”
The Gaels held a 4-0 advantage through four innings before breaking through in the seventh with a six-spot.
Ella Vandi had a big effort offensively, going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
“We kind of kept the door open, not scoring enough runs early,” Shirbroun said. “But it was nice to be able to finish it strong.”
Helle and Myrah Lemon had two hits each. Helle drove in three runs, while Faith Shirbroun and Jade Rock also had an RBI.
Rock, Shirbroun, and Rihanna Myers recorded doubles.
The Gaels stole eight bases. Vandi had three, while Rock swiped two. Breckyn Ulrich, Myers and Lemon added one each.
For Webster City, Amanda Lahr had two hits. Jakaela Cherry roped a double.
The Gaels are back in action on Saturday at the CYO Tournament. They’ll face Sioux City Heelan and Remsen St. Mary’s.
