No. 3 Dodgers pummel Sioux City North
SIOUX CITY — Andi Adams knows it’s still too early in the season to draw many conclusions, but on Friday, the third-ranked Fort Dodge softball team put on another hitting clinic against one of Class 5A’s leading pitchers to date.
The Dodgers (9-1 overall) blitzed Sioux City North (10-6) by a final of 22-1.
North pitcher Joslyn Vogt (10-2) came into the contest leading 5A with 78 strikeouts. She also had more victories than any other 5A pitcher so far. Vogt had sported an earned run average of 1.65.
That all changed on Friday. Fort Dodge pounded out 18 hits in the contest and scored 19 earned runs off Vogt.
“We’e just really seeing and hitting the ball well,” Adams said. “(Vogt) is leading 5A in strikeouts and wins, so we knew we had to be ready. And we were.”
The Dodgers waisted little time taking the lead, scoring six in the first and leading 17-0 before Sioux City North even had four trips to the plate. Once again, the top of the Dodger lineup was potent, going a combined 12-for-16 with 14 runs batted in.
Aubrey Alstott (5-0) and Sydney Carver split the pitching duties. Both sophomores gave up two hits, while logging a combined four strikeouts.
Junior Hope Alstott was perfect across the board, going 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI, hitting two doubles. Senior Teryn Rippentrop was 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.
FDSH junior catcher Ellie Doster remained hot as well, hitting her sixth home run already this year. She had three RBI, giving her 28 on the season. Doster is now second in 4A in RBI, and tied for second in homers.
Leadoff hitter Macy Wills was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two hits and four RBI.
Grace Nichols was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Emersyn Lara went 2-for-3 with two runs and three driven in.
Calliegh Zimmermann, Aubrey Alstott, and Tori Jakeman all drove in a run. Doster and Rippentrop had doubles in the rout.
“We just want to approach every game the same no matter who we are facing,” Adams said. “We just want to keep the momentum going and work on things that we need to.”
Fort Dodge is back in action on Saturday when they head to West Des Moines to play in the Bakey Classic. They’ll face Dallas-Center Grimes at 11 a.m. and Urbandale at 3 p.m.
