WC’s Olson strong for Iowa Central
The sixth-ranked Iowa Central baseball team earned their seventh sweep of the season here Thursday vs. Southwestern at Rogers Park.
Scores were 11-0 in six innings and 8-3.
Tyler Olson struck out nine and allowed just four hits in the opener, as Caleb Corbin and Will Smoot both recorded home runs.
In the second game, Andrew Regner earned the win, striking out six over five innings with five hits scattered. Evan Borst led the way at the plate with a home run and four RBI.
The Tritons (27-4 overall, 8-3 in ICCAC) gave Olson, a former Webster City standout, all the support he would need with a five-run second, as Smoot ended it with a homer to complete a four-run sixth.
“It was good to see us come out and take care of business ahead of a big series this weekend,” ICCC head coach Eric Stein said. “Tyler did a great job and Andrew the same in the second game.”
Quade Peters was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Colten Becker drove in three with a double.
Olson is now 4-1 on the year with 38 strikeouts in 24-plus innings pitched.
Iowa Central plated runs in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh in the nine-inning nightcap on 13 hits. Michael Siemer, Becker, Joshua Blount and Zakary Goodwin each had two hits, with Borst and Goodwin scoring twice. Goodwin and Smoot drove in a run each.
The Tritons will host 14th-ranked Kirkwood (19-11, 6-5) for a three-game set beginning here Friday at 1 p.m. Iowa Central has won five in a row and has gone 13-1 at home this season.
