Schany adds fourth medal

DES MOINES — Emmetsburg sensation Rachel Schany ended her high school career with a fourth state track and field medal here Saturday from Drake Stadium.
Schany, a senior for the E-Hawks, tallied all of the points her team scored in Class 2A, placing fourth in the 800-meter run. She posted a time of 2:16.94, a season best.
Earlier in the meet, Schany finished fourth in the high jump, was sixth in the long jump and eighth in the 400-meter run. She was a state champion in the high jump as a junior and sophomore, ending her career with 13 medals in all.
In other 2A action, East Sac County’s Riley Aragon was 16th in the boys 1,600 in a time of 4:33.71 while Manson Northwest Webster’s Maddie Wittrock finished 21st in the girls 1,500 in 5:09.83.
Algona added two more 3A medals to the week, as Natalie Johnson finished fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.16 while the boys sprint medley relay of William Weichert, Levi Walker, Tate Garman and Evan Allie was sixth in 1:32.71.
Gavin Weber placed 13th in the boys 800 in 1:57.49 and 14th in the 1,600 in 4:26.92. Macy Knapp was 16th in the girls 800 in 2:19.41.
Webster City ran in both sprint medley relays, as the boys finished ninth in 1:33.13 and the girls went 1:50.67 to place 13th. Jaxon Griffith, Kaleb Hansen, Rylan Stroner and Justin Callahan ran for the Lynx boys, as Kali Hartnett, Izzy Weinschenk, Tessa Hansen and Izzy Grossoehme competed for the girls.
Humboldt’s Aubry Fisher was 11th in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:39.82 while Brynn Malo was 22nd in the 800-meter run in 2:28.14
In 1A, Bishop Garrigan placed seventh in the girls sprint medley relay in 1:52.19, as Cate Birkey, Brooklyn Berte, Ava Roethler and Madelyn Tigges ran that event. Julia Swift was 18th in the 1,500 for the Golden Bears in 5:04.82.
Newell-Fonda’s Mareni Brabec also ran in that 1,500, finishing ninth in 4:55.67.
