HUMBOLDT — The Fort Dodge girls can get a little revenge and keep their season going at the same time here Saturday night.
The Dodgers take on Humboldt in a Class 4A, Region 1 semifinal. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
With a win, Fort Dodge (12-9 overall) will avenge a January loss to the Wildcats (14-7) and advance to Tuesday where they would play either No. 1 Dallas Center-Grimes or Carroll to qualify for state.
This past Wednesday night, the Dodgers used a balanced scoring effort to oust Webster City, 67-49, as Lainey Maehl had 19 and both Paytene Hiveley and LJ Maehl added 17. Hiveley also recorded 16 rebounds.
Hiveley became the first Dodger since the 2007-08 season to go over 270 points and collect 200 rebounds in a season. Lainey Maehl, a senior like Hiveley, is closing in on that mark with 274 and 193.
Maehl has 589 career points and 385 rebounds in 75 varsity games, while Hiveley has 522 and 443 in 64.
Fort Dodge’s 12 wins this year are the most since the 06-07 team went 13-10 and the 21 victories over the past two years are the most since 06-07/07-08, when they won 25.
Humboldt closed the regular season strong, winning five of its last six to earn a bye into the regional semifinals. The Wildcats are 8-2 at home and have won the last five there.
Back in January, Humboldt claimed a 53-46 victory over the Dodgers as they used a 22-11 fourth quarter to gain the win. Morgan Mann scored 15 with Reagan Lee and Ava Fischer adding 12 each.
Mann, a sophomore, set the single-season school scoring record earlier this year. She comes into the night with 422 points, including a single-game record 33 against St. Edmond.
Last year, Mann posted 354 points an earned all-North Central Conference honors. She currently sits at 776 points in 43 games for the Wildcats.
Fort Dodge won two straight and three of four with Humboldt prior to the recent loss, but the last Dodger win came in 2014.
