ALGONA — Senior Night in the Bishop Garrigan gym started with Audi Crooks singing, and finished with another Crooks record on the hardwood.
The future Iowa State basketball player showed off her pipes to start the contest for the Golden Bears, belting out the National Anthem to get the festivities going.
“Singing the National Anthem to start the game was super fun,” Crooks said. “I was just happy that I had the opportunity to do it on Senior Night.”
The Golden Bear then continued her climb to the top of Iowa’s all-time scoring leader charts, breaking her own school record with a 50-point outburst as Bishop Garrigan beat West Hancock, 83-30.
Crooks now ranks sixth on the all-time scoring list with 2,462 points. She has 617 this season.
Crooks also had 20 rebounds, which gives her 1,231 in her career. She is now fifth on Iowa’s all-time list behind Highland’s Rachel Yeggy (1,533), Cardinal Stritch’s Jennifer Goetz (1,397), Hallie Christofferson of Exira (1,320) and Kiah Stokes (1,239) of Linn-Mar.
Iowa’s all-time leading scorer is Pocahontas Area graduate Elle Ruffridge (2,951). Deb Remmerde of Rock Valley (2,756) is next, followed by Southeast Webster-Grand’s Jennifer Jorgensen (2,708), Dowling’s Caitlin Clark (2,547) and Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s Anne O’Neil (2,494).
“I wasn’t really trying for a career high…the guards just did a really nice job of passing it in to me,” Crooks said. “It worked out in our favor.
“I’m very grateful to have such selfless teammates.”
