Sports Park Raceway ready for Sunday opener

The 2026 Sports Park Raceway opener is next on the track, as the season debuts Sunday with IMCA action in eight classes.

The local venue has shifted from USRA back to IMCA for this season, and races have moved from the 2025 Saturday night schedule to Sunday evenings this summer. The title sponsor this weekend is Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota.

Sport Compacts, Hobby Stocks, Sport Mods, Stock Cars, Modifieds, Late Models and 4.6 Crown Vics will race on Sunday.

Pits open at 3 p.m., with the grandstands at 4. Races start at 5 p.m.

Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for kids ages 7-12. Children age 6 and under will not be charged.

Hot laps immediately follow the 4:45 p.m. drivers’ meeting. Classes are being combined for hot laps, with the order being Sport Compacts, Crown Vics, slower vintage cars, Hobby Stocks, Stock Cars and faster vintage cars. Sport Mods, Modifieds and Late Models will go last in the hot lap process.

An IMCA license, MyLaps Transponders and Race Receivers are required for drivers. There is no entry fee for the competitors, though.

This year’s race sponsors are Pickett Salvage (Vintage Cars), Culver’s (4.8 Crown Vics), Matt’s Tire Service (IMCA Sport Compacts), Pickett Salvage (IMCA Hobby Stocks), White Transfer and Storage (IMCA Sport Mods), Marsh Concrete (IMCA Stock Cars) and United Plant Services (IMCA Modifieds).

Next month will be busy, with the United Plant Services Modified Special and All Divisions event on June 7, the Matt’s Tire Service Sport Compact and All Divisions racing on June 14, the Iowa Moto Series slated for June 21, and the Marsh Concrete Stock Car Special and All Divisions on June 28.

In July, the Culver’s 4.6 Crown Vic Special and All Divisions (July 5), the White Transfer and Storage Sport Mod Special and All Divisions (July 12), and the Pickett Salvage Hobby Stock Special and All Divisions (July 26) are scheduled for action.

Kemna Auto Kids Night is Aug. 2. Sunco Bonus Night for IMCA Late Models is Aug. 9. Stay Wild Animal Control Night is Aug. 16.

The Midwest SXS series of UTV races visits on Aug. 21 and 22, presented by FNO Powersports.

The season championship for IMCA racers, sponsored by Baker Group, is Aug. 30.

Last year’s champs included Nick Hogan of Fort Dodge (Crown Vics), Brayden Cundiff of Palmer (Figure 8 — FWD), Jason Minnehan of Churdan (Stock Car), Charles Prime of Britt (Tuners), Fort Dodge’s Jeremy Crimmins (Hobby Stocks), Lyle Sathoff (Modifieds) and Ty Griffith of Blairsburg (B-Mods).

Sports Park Raceway is located just under a mile north of U.S. 20 on U.S. 169, then half a mile east on 230th Street in Fort Dodge.
