Following their last-second loss this past Friday night, the Fort Dodge football team dropped four spots to No. 8 in the latest Class 4A AP poll.

Algona remained third in 2A and South Central Calhoun stood firm at sixth in 1A. Southeast Valley entered the 2A poll, sliding in at No. 10 this week.

Newell-Fonda is receiving votes in 8-man.

The Dodgers suffered their first setback of the season to sixth-ranked Southeast Polk when Logan Sunvold booted through a 42-yard field goal as time expired, giving the Rams a 24-21 victory.

Senior Asle Thorson completed 22 of 31 passes for 244 yards with two total touchdowns, Dayson Clayton ran for 91 yards and caught a touchdown, and Tysen Kershaw had nine receptions for 93 yards and threw a TD pass to Nick Bice.

Sam Daniel had a game-high nine tackles for the Fort Dodge (4-1 overall, 0-1 in district) defense, with Levi Egli and Tyler Nichols each recording two tackles for loss.

Daniel also picked off two passes.

Thorson has 1,047 yards passing, 184 yards rushing and a total of 16 touchdowns this year. Clayton has 616 total yards and five scores, with Kershaw hauling in 29 passes for 396 yards and five TDs.

Austin Lee leads the Dodger defense with 33.5 tackles and three sacks. Daniel has picked off four passes.

Fort Dodge has two road games next, first heading to Drake Stadium to meet Des Moines Roosevelt (4-1, 1-0), who is coming off a 93-0 victory vs. Sioux City West.

Algona (5-0, 1-0) posted its fifth consecutive game over 30 points in a 35-7 victory vs. Garner-Hayfield/Ventura.

Algona plays two straight games at home, hosting Clarion-Goldfield/Dows (1-4 0-1) and Estherville-LC (3-2, 1-0).

South Central Calhoun (5-0, 1-0) allowed the most points they have all year, as Ogden scored eight. The Titans, however, had nine touchdowns, claiming a 61-8 victory.

Landon Schleisman ran in three scores and had 119 yards on just six carries, with Cole Corey Brennan Holder, Evan Jacobs and Jordan Khommanyvong each adding a rushing score.
