Supports Buttigieg for president

To the editor: I would like to encourage Democrat caucus attendees to support Pete Buttigieg. I know there is no shortage of candidates too old for such a demanding job. President Eisenhower stated that he should never have run for his second term at 66 as he said the job was too strenuous for his age. Pete graduated magna cum laude from Harvard and finished “First” at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Historians have generally recognized some of our greatest presidents as “geniuses:” Lincoln, Jefferson, T. Roosevelt. He volunteered for military service after campaigning for Obama ...

Says Mayor Pete is most electable

To the editor: Many Democratic voters in Iowa and across the country are understandably concerned about selecting a presidential nominee who is most likely to defeat President Trump in the general election. Mayor Pete Buttigieg definitely fits this bill better than any of the other Democratic presidential candidates. Indeed, Democrats have taken back the White House from Republicans in the modern era only when they nominate a brand new candidate who has never before run for president, such as John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama. Like these previous ...

Fort Dodge meal packing event was big success

To the editor: The people of Iowa help feed the world, and the people of Fort Dodge and Webster County proved it once again! On Dec. 7, 2019, almost 500 volunteers came together at Community Christian School for Fort Dodge MobilePack to help pack nutritious meals for some of the neediest children in the world. In just one day, the volunteers packed 108,864 meals to feed 298 kids for an entire year. The meals packed in Fort Dodge are on their way to feed hungry children in Haiti. The MobilePack also helped meet needs in our own community. Not only was enough money raised to send ...

Climate change: destiny or legacy

To the editor: Science tells us climate change is a proven national emergency: 10 years or less to avoid a tipping point. Caucus voters, please vote for the candidate you feel addresses this issue. Believe like it’s the crisis it is! For young voters, it’s your destiny: older voters, your legacy. It “trumps” all other issues. (By the way, he doesn’t believe in climate change.) You can hate Trump, but not the people who voted for him. We need to unite to believe in science and vote to eradicate the causes of accelerated climate change. Steve Pratt Fort Dodge

Supporting Mayor Pete

To the editor: After reading information on his background and meeting him in person, I’ve have decided to caucus for former South Bend, Indiana Mayor, Pete Buttigieg on February 3rd. There are several outstanding qualities he possesses that are noticeable. He is very intelligent as is indicated by his education and military background and mayoral tenure. When he answers questions or respond to issues, he displays integrity and civility. He seems pragmatic in his responses to questions when asked about how he would work (with others) to solve some to the problems facing the people ...

Says Soleimani was imminent threat

To the editor: I’m really miffed at people calling the terrorist Soleimani a revered government official. He was a terrorist and a leader in a country known to be the biggest state sponsor of terrorism in the world. Terrorists are cowards. They don’t stand up and fight military entities, but rather sneak around and kill innocent people. Some people are saying that taking out Soleimani was akin to someone taking out the chairman of the joint chiefs. That is ridiculous on its face.I hardly think that general Milley has conducted any terrorist activities. Most of this hypocrisy ...
