To the editor: We’re all in! The theme of the 37th Friends of Saint Edmond Ball was exemplified on so many levels and in so many ways these past few weeks. A journey that began late last year with the primary challenge of following a record-breaking year for funds raised quickly changed course in March as the COVID-19 global pandemic began to take hold in our country and state. To the editor: I favor getting the economy back up and running in the most responsible way possible. If we consider the low levels of transmission in Webster County and the precautions people can and are taking, we should weigh what we are presently doing against unintended consequences of remaining locked down too long. The calculus of life saved through mitigation efforts must be compared to life saved through economic efforts. Sure, you’re missing out on a quarter of direct instruction inside your school building, prom, spring sports, concerts, and events, and most of all, time with your friends before graduation. Advocates for Renewable Fuel Standard

To the editor: While America’s farmers are facing challenges maintaining America’s food supply chain, oil refiners are busy in Washington looking to turn the economic crisis to their advantage. The refiners are asking the Environmental Protection Agency to either eliminate the Renewable Fuel Standard for the year or roll back the agreement on targets that President Trump himself brokered last year. To the editor: I am writing in support of Trevir Michehl for Webster County sheriff. Trevir has been employed as Webster County deputy sheriff for three years. Trevir was born and raised in Fort Dodge. Trevir has been in law enforcement for over 13 years but would bring with him a fresh perspective for our community. To the editor: When flipping through channels a week or so ago I discovered Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham being interviewed on “The View”, a woman’s talk show on ABC that has five ultra-liberal hosts.
