To the editor: I am writing this letter to encourage all Webster County voters to elect Luke Fleener sheriff. I have served as a deputy sheriff in Humboldt County since 2007. Since that time, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Luke on many occasions. I have always been impressed with his knowledge, work ethic and integrity. Evening Lions announce winner

To the editor: The Fort Dodge Evening Lions wish to announce the winner of the 2003 Chevy Silverado that was drawn for on Aug. 8 at the Fort Dodge Ford and Ja-Mar Cruise. Wonderful turnout and tickets were completely sold out by 6:30 p.m. The drawing was held at 7 p.m. and the lucky winner was Cheryl Hurdel of Fort Dodge. To the editor: In response to the Messenger editorial published on July 27 titled “Government should pay for mail-in ballots.” I understand as I read that editorial, it was very absent of thought. So, we shift the cost from the citizen for the postage to the state government. The government as you know, gets their money from all of us in the form of taxes. In order to add this cost to our government, they in turn raise our taxes to cover that expense. Once that tax is established, it will never be rescinded. To the editor: At last the word is out and so are the stores who were selling that small instrument to take your temperature that will be considered to be a fever. Anything over 100.4 should contact the doctor to see if they need more testing for the COVID-19. So when anybody is going to leave their residence and will have contact with other people, that person shoud take this test which only takes about 10 seconds that could save their life or somebody else. Wonders why some don’t wear masks

To the editor: I can’t figure out why some people don’t wear masks in public. I don’t know if it’s a lack of respect, defiance, or ignorance. My wife and I wear masks when we are out in businesses and among people. We do it out of respect for others, a want to stay healthy, and the scientific facts of COVID. We do it out of a sense of civic duty to help keep all people safe. Where is the sense of duty of people that do not wear a mask?
