Enjoys the trails in Fort Dodge

To the editor: Thanks for all the Fort Dodge and Webster County Bike Trails! A special thank you to Matt Cosgrove, the trails maintenance crew (especially Kyle), Matt Bemrich, the Webster County Supervisors, the City Council, Webster County Conservation, and the Webster County Trails Committee. Since moving to Fort Dodge 13 years ago, I have seen numerous trail additions and improvements. More than 50 miles of trails go around most of the city, out to Iowa Central Community College and Kennedy Park. In addition there are trails or sections of trails on Cental Avenue and Third Street, ...

Endorses Ann Meyer

To the editor: I’m am writing to urge fellow voters to join me in supporting Rep. Ann Meyer, the hard working, bipartisan, positive choice for House District 9. At the recent forum, Ann and her opponent both pledged to run positive campaigns. The very next day mailers began arriving in mailboxes, including mine, from her opponent with attacks, misinformation and downright lies. This isn’t what we’re about in Fort Dodge and Webster County. Ann has worked hard and across party lines, in her first term in the Iowa House to get things accomplished with the goal being “does it ...

Doesn’t like outside support for Clayton

To the editor: Charles Clayton is selling out the voters of Webster County and House District 9. Over 96% of his contributions have come from outside District 9. And when I say outside, I mean way outside of District 9, with the majority of those donations coming from the two coasts. Let that sink in for a moment: over 96% of funding for his campaign has come from people who neither know Charles, or for that matter, could tell anyone where Fort Dodge is. What is Charles doing with those funds? He is spending it on attack ads and flat out lies against a wife, mother, nurse and fine ...

Says Meyer has exceeded expectations

To the editor: I have not been one that frequently offers my thoughts in the editor’s forum. I did so two years ago. I find myself compelled to write again on the same subject. I would like those that are reading this to consider supporting Ann Meyer for another term in the Iowa State House. My familiarity with Ann and her drive, energy and passion for service prompted me to write in support in 2018. I had hoped that she would approach her work at the capitol with the same dedication, energy and character that she had shown as a nurse, teacher and active community member. Her ...

Don’t reward bad behavior

To the editor: As a parent, when my kids acted up in a store or restaurant, I always believed that you should not reward bad behavior. If you give in to their demands when they are acting inappropriately, you reinforce the behavior and almost assuredly have to deal with it again very soon. We in House District 9 need to decide if we are going to reward bad behavior in the form of negative campaigning regardless of political affiliation. I never hear anyone say that they like all the negative mailers and advertising they see. In fact, almost everyone I speak with (regardless of party) ...

Make America great again

To the editor: I was fortunate enough to grow up in a good Christian family and taught the meaning of right and wrong and to respect other people. I tried to instill these values in my children and would be disappointed if my children lied, called others names or threw childish tantrums as I’m sure most parents would be. That’s why I find it hard to understand that if we wouldn’t accept that kind of behavior in our children, why people accept that kind of behavior from our president? Maybe I’m being naive, but I thought what made America great was helping our friends instead of ...
