FD Federated Garden Club says ‘thank you’

To the editor:

The Fort Dodge Federated Garden Club thanks the community for their support for two of our recent events, the Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa Sixth District Meeting, and our plant and garage sale.

We thank Mayor Matt Bemrich, who made time in his schedule to welcome our guests at the district meeting. The Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Fort Dodge Public Library, the Webster-Calhoun Co-op, Great Western Bank, Hy-Vee, Becker Garden Center, Smitty’s Garden Center, and Earl May all provided items for the “welcome bags” for 55 attendees. We appreciate the hospitality of First Covenant Church in providing a lovely venue, and we thank the women of First Covenant Church for graciously serving our guests. Andrea Minikis provided entertainment, and Jane Hogue of Odebolt presented a program on “The Art of Gardening.” Thanks to all these people and organizations.

Our plant and garage sale brought more traffic and more profits than in previous years. We want to express a huge thank you to the businesses who graciously allowed us to post fliers in their restaurants and stores, the Lions Club for making their facility available to us, The Messenger for publicity, and all who purchased plants and other items. Congratulations to Shirley Wolf for winning the raffle for a beautiful hanging planter donated by Jeff Becker of Becker Garden Center.

Profits from our plant sale and annual Tour of Gardens support many projects, including horticulture and landscape design scholarships, tree plantings in Fort Dodge, gardening books for the local library, the Greater Des Moines Botanical Gardens, the Iowa Arboretum at Luther, our local flower show and many more projects.

The entire garden club joins me in thanking you for your support. We look forward to seeing our supportive community again at our annual garden tour, a Twilight Tour on July 7.
